DJ Kriptix
Merlin sunley 22 a.k.a kryptix has been producing electronic music of all styles since November 1999, he started experimenting with frutyloops making 4/4 beats inspired by the sounds of Sasha & Digweed, Timo Maas, Leftfield, Underworld et al. Drum n Bass had planted it's seed 5 years before at a friends house, the friend had put on a Randall mix-tape and Merlin heard the sound of Adam F's seminal 'Circles' but being a youngster in small town west Wales these tantalising glimpses into jungle/drum n bass were few and far between. it was only a matter of time, his taste for searching out drum n bass took over and fuelled by the internet he started to get into the tech'd up beats of Ed Rush, Optical, Nico, Trace, and Dom & Roland. Inspired by their visions of futuristic urban dystopia he started trying to create his own take on the sound which combines the tripped out atmospherics and gnarly basslines of Techstep , with the cinematic melodies and razor sharp drum edits inspired by Risc Vs. Reward era Photek or Source Direct. Mix that with near obsessive attention to detail and a love for epic movie scores and you get the Kryptix sound. In September 2001 he began a music tech course at a local college, having started DJing shortly before, this is where he met Jack Jariwala a.k.a DJ Opti-Mystic and Jake Shrimpton a.k.a Jake Radar, spurred on by these new friendships with "two people who are just as madly into this music as I am" He began to Dj at Radar's night, Fatlace earning himself a residency soon after and subsequently has played on the same bill as Audio from Resonant Evil, Dylan & Robyn Chaos, Silent Witness & Break, Logistics, Nicky Blackmarket, Donovan Badboy Smith, Mickey Finn & DJ Rap, and has also co-organized many other successful Fatlace nights in the area, he also plays regularly at the numerous free parties in south Wales. all the while a steady stream of top-notch dnb is making it's way from his PC and onto the local club and free party rigs. At the moment he just wants to get his first 12" out, but ultimately his goal is to get his music out there into clubs and living rooms globally and to push the vast array of extremely talented artists in the south Wales area via his own imprint Razorwire Records, oh and to play at The End........obviously!
