DJ X2K
From a young age Tom aka X2K was fascinated by electronic & technical things, this combined with a lot of being taken along to gigs and festivals by his mother from a very young age meant that sooner or later he found himself being drawn to the sound equipment at all the events he attended, at the age of about 8 he could be seen crawling about the stages at various events setting stuff up while the sound crew were probably lounging around getting stoned.
Somewhere over the next few years he had encountered a few DJs and wasn't too sure what was involved but decided that was what he had to do. In the mid nighties Tom finally got his hands on a pair of second hand SoundLab belt drive turntables and a Realistic mixer, and so it all began.
In the late 90s Tom was then trying to look into how he might make his own music, realising that the equipment seemed to be vastly expensive he was quite happy when he started to discover how computers where capable of making music also, Tom had tried a few different pieces of software on various peoples computers but it wasn't until he discovered trackers that he started to make a few tracks (they were terrible and luckily he thinks there are no copies of them currently in existence). After a bit of time he progressed through various pieces of software but has now finally ended up with a little hardware based studio of his own.
Tom says,” Even though software has become vastly powerful, now I find the limitations of my current hardware set up cause the creativity to come out and that's what's important.
As for the style of music I make, that depends on a lot of different factors, the things I make one month can be at the complete opposite end of the spectrum to the following month. My 2 passions with music are either horrible dark or twisted music or really funky soulful music so what I create should probably lie somewhere between those to criteria” |
